Turn a Word document into a PDF for sharing or printing. Select one DOC, DOCX, ODT or RTF file. Conversion uploads the file to our server, which uses LibreOffice; no account is required.
How to convert Word to PDF
- Save your document and keep the original. Review its page size, margins and print preview in your editor.
- Choose or drop one DOC, DOCX, ODT or RTF file above. Check the displayed upload limit before converting.
- Wait for the conversion service to connect, then select Convert & download. This sends your document to the server.
- Open the downloaded PDF and compare its page count, text, images, headers and footers with the original.
Check fonts and page breaks
The server may substitute a font it does not have. This can change line wrapping and move text onto another page. Tables, text boxes and embedded objects may also render differently from your original editor.
For a two-page résumé, check that the last section has not moved onto a third page. If the layout changes, simplify the formatting or export directly from the application where the document looks correct.
Supported files and upload limits
This page accepts DOC, DOCX, ODT and RTF, one file at a time. The hosted upload limit is currently 5 MB; the tool displays its configured limit. Compress large embedded pictures in the original document before trying again.
There is no Office password-entry control here. If a document requires a password to open, use your authoring application to save an accessible copy first, if you have permission.
Server processing and availability
Your document is uploaded when you select Convert & download. Temporary conversion files are subject to the file retention policy. Use a local editor instead if you cannot send the document to a hosted service.
The service may take longer to connect after inactivity or be busy with another job. Keep the selected file and retry after a pause if an error appears. The downloaded PDF is a separate copy; keep the Word file for future edits.
Frequently asked questions
Does the PDF always look exactly like Word?
No. LibreOffice can render fonts, complex tables and embedded objects differently. Compare the result with the original before sharing it.
Can I use older DOC files?
Yes. The file picker supports DOC as well as DOCX, ODT and RTF. A damaged or unsupported document can still fail conversion.
Does my file leave my device?
Yes. Word-to-PDF uses the conversion server. Read the privacy and file retention policies before sending sensitive documents.
Can I edit the PDF like a Word file?
Keep the original Word document for editing. PDF is intended to share a fixed page layout and is not a replacement for your editable source.
