PDF to Word

The interactive tool loads here. JavaScript is required to use its controls; the instructions below are available without it.

Recover editable text from a PDF as a Word DOCX file. This free converter works in your browser, with optional English OCR for scans. It is useful for reusing paragraphs; it does not recreate the original page design.

How to convert PDF to Word

  1. Choose one PDF above. If asked, enter the password needed to open a document you are allowed to use.
  2. Leave OCR off for a PDF with selectable text. For scanned pages, select Use OCR for scanned pages (slower, English).
  3. Select Convert & download and keep this tab open until the DOCX downloads.
  4. Open the DOCX in Word or another compatible editor. Compare it with the original PDF and read any warnings about missing text.

What the Word file contains

The export groups extracted text lines into editable paragraphs, adds a page label and separates source pages with page breaks. Original fonts, images, columns, table structure and exact spacing are not retained.

For example, a two-page letter can become a useful editing draft. A brochure with several columns may need its reading order corrected. If the original DOCX is available, use that for layout-sensitive edits.

Text extraction or OCR?

Try selecting a sentence in your PDF viewer. If the words are selectable, start with normal extraction. If the page is only a scan, OCR can recognize English text from its image; blurry text and handwriting may be inaccurate.

OCR uses more time and device memory. Check names, dates, amounts and punctuation against the scan. If only some pages produce text, the converter reports warnings; a PDF with no readable text cannot produce a useful text export.

Privacy and practical limits

This operation processes your PDF on your device and does not upload it to our conversion API. The site still makes normal resource requests; OCR needs recognition resources to load. See the privacy policy for site-wide details.

Large scans can strain a phone or older computer. Split a long PDF into smaller parts if necessary. The DOCX does not preserve PDF form behavior or digital signature verification. Keep the original for reference.

Frequently asked questions

Is the result editable in Word?

Yes, the extracted words are editable DOCX text. Images and the original layout are not reproduced, so you may need to rebuild formatting and tables.

Can I convert a scanned PDF?

Enable the English OCR option for scanned pages. Recognition quality depends on the scan; review the output rather than assuming every word is correct.

Why is text missing from a page?

The page may have no text layer, an unreadable scan or text that could not be extracted. Read the page warnings and try OCR where appropriate.

Can I use this without an account?

Yes. No account or payment is required. Keep the browser tab open while conversion runs.
