Turn each page of a PDF into a JPG or PNG image for presentations, sharing or image uploads. This free PDF-to-image converter runs in your browser and does not upload your PDF to the conversion server.
How to convert PDF to images
- Choose or drop one PDF into the converter above. Keep an untouched copy of your original document.
- Choose JPG for smaller photographic images or PNG for lossless image output. Use the preview to check that you selected the right document.
- Choose a render scale from 1x to 3x. For JPG, adjust quality between 50% and 100%; higher settings usually create larger files.
- Enter pages such as 1-10, 15, or leave Pages blank for all pages (up to 50 per export). Select Convert & download. One selected page downloads as an image; multiple selected pages download as a ZIP with their original page numbers.
JPG or PNG: which should you choose?
JPG is useful for scanned photographs and sharing when file size matters. Its compression can soften small text and introduce marks around sharp edges. Start at the default 90% quality and inspect fine details before sharing.
PNG preserves the rendered pixels without JPG compression artifacts, which can help with diagrams, screenshots and small text. It can produce larger files. Both formats turn the page into a flat image: text is no longer selectable and links, forms and digital signature verification are not preserved.
Choose a resolution your device can handle
Render scale changes image dimensions. For a standard A4 page, 1x is about 595 × 842 pixels, while 2x is about 1191 × 1684 pixels. Actual output depends on the PDF's page size and rotation.
Doubling the scale creates roughly four times as many pixels. Higher resolution uses more memory and cannot restore detail missing from a blurry scan. On a phone, start at 1x or 1.5x for large documents and keep the tab open until the download starts.
Example: put a PDF page into a presentation
For a one-page report with a chart and labels, try PNG at 2x. Insert the downloaded image into your slide and check the smallest label at presentation size. For a photo-heavy report that must stay small, compare JPG at 90% quality instead. Keep the PDF when your audience needs searchable text or working links.
Privacy and practical limits
PDF-to-image processing happens on your device. The PDF is not sent to our conversion API for this operation. Normal website requests still occur; see our privacy policy for site-wide details. Other tools may use the server and describe this separately.
The converter exports complete pages, not just embedded photos. Select a page range to export part of a document. Each export is limited to 50 pages and 32 MB of image output. If a page exceeds 8 megapixels or 4,096 pixels per side, lower the render scale.
Large pages and long documents can exceed your browser's available memory, especially at 3x scale. Try a lower scale or split the document into smaller parts. Downloaded files remain on your device until you delete them.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert PDF to JPG or PNG for free?
Yes. This converter requires no account or payment. Choose one PDF and select the output format after opening it.
Why did I receive a ZIP instead of an image?
A PDF with more than one page produces one image per page. These images are packaged into a ZIP so they can be downloaded together. Extract the ZIP to use the individual JPG or PNG files.
Will converting a scanned PDF make the text editable?
No. This tool renders the page as an image. Use PDF to Text with OCR if you need to extract words from a scan, and proofread the result.
Can I open a password-protected PDF?
When prompted, enter the password needed to open the PDF. Some protected files may require additional permissions or may not be supported. Only process documents you own or have permission to use.
