File Retention Policy
Last Updated: 20-Sep-2026
This File Retention Policy explains how uploaded files, generated outputs, and temporary processing data are handled within ClassicConverter.
Purpose
ClassicConverter processes uploaded files, entered content, and generated outputs only for completing requested operations such as conversions, processing, invoice generation, extraction, calculations, or other utility functions.
We aim to minimize storage duration and remove temporary data as quickly as reasonably practical.
Uploaded Files and User Content
Files uploaded by users may be temporarily stored while processing is in progress.
Uploaded files, generated outputs, and temporary data are not intended for long-term storage and should not be considered backups.
Users should always maintain copies of original files and downloaded outputs.
Processing Methods
Many tools operate entirely within your browser. For browser-based processing, files remain on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.
Some tools require temporary server-side processing due to technical requirements or processing complexity.
Server-side processing may use technologies including:
- LibreOffice
- qpdf
- Internal processing services
Temporary storage may be required while these operations complete.
Retention Duration
Uploaded files, generated outputs, and temporary processing data are automatically removed using automated cleanup processes.
- Immediately after successful processing where practical
- Typically within 1 hour after upload or generation
- Earlier or later depending on processing state, cleanup timing, or system conditions
Retention targets are operational goals and are not guaranteed deletion times.
Failed or Interrupted Processing Jobs
Files associated with failed, incomplete, interrupted, or partially processed jobs may temporarily remain while cleanup processes complete.
Automated cleanup processes regularly remove these files when detected.
Generated Files and Outputs
Server-generated outputs are returned to your browser for download; the conversion service is not a file archive. Downloaded copies remain on your device until you delete them.
Users should download generated outputs promptly after processing completes.
ClassicConverter does not guarantee recovery of deleted, expired, or removed files.
Invoices and Other Browser Storage
Saved invoices, invoice drafts, business settings, theme preferences, and recently used tool names are stored in your browser. They are not automatically deleted by the server cleanup process. Remove saved invoices through the invoice tool or clear this website’s data in your browser to remove locally stored information. Clearing site data can remove drafts and settings you have not exported.
Certificates and Passwords
Inspecting a certificate or signing a PDF sends the selected certificate and password to the conversion service for that request. The current certificate inspection and signing implementation processes certificate contents in server memory and does not deliberately save certificate files to disk. Other PDF and document operations may create temporary job files. No certificate or password is saved by the tool to browser local storage. Memory release and cleanup are not a guarantee of forensic erasure.
Logs and Temporary Metadata
Limited temporary metadata related to processing may exist within server logs, monitoring systems, or infrastructure services for operational, troubleshooting, reliability, or abuse prevention purposes.
This information is retained only as long as reasonably necessary for platform operation and security.
Retention Exceptions
In limited situations, temporary information may remain longer than expected due to:
- Processing failures
- System outages
- Infrastructure delays
- Security investigations
- Abuse prevention measures
- Backup or recovery processes
Security Practices
To reduce unnecessary retention:
- Temporary storage is minimized
- Cleanup processes run automatically
- Storage access is restricted
- Expired files are periodically removed
- Temporary processing data is limited where practical
While reasonable safeguards are used, users should avoid uploading highly sensitive or confidential information unless necessary.
User Responsibilities
Users are responsible for:
- Maintaining backups of original files
- Downloading processed files promptly
- Verifying outputs before use
- Avoiding unnecessary uploads of sensitive information
- Understanding that uploaded content is temporary
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated periodically as services evolve.
