File Encryption

The interactive tool loads here. JavaScript is required to use its controls; the instructions below are available without it.

Encrypt or decrypt a file locally with a password. New encrypted downloads use the Classic Converter CCENC2 format with a fresh salt, initialization vector and AES-GCM ciphertext.

How to use this tool

  1. Select Encrypt or Decrypt and choose the file.
  2. Enter the password and run the operation.
  3. Download the result. Before discarding an original, test that you can decrypt a copy with the saved password.

How to interpret the result

This is a custom encrypted-file format, not ZIP or PDF password protection. The browser processes the file in memory. Losing the password can make the encrypted data unrecoverable; the site does not keep a recovery key.

Frequently asked questions

Can it open older Classic Converter files?

The implementation also supports the earlier CCENC1 format for decryption. New encryption uses CCENC2; unrelated encrypted formats require their original software.
