YAML Formatter

The interactive tool loads here. JavaScript is required to use its controls; the instructions below are available without it.

Parse and format a YAML document to make its structure easier to read. Syntax errors are reported rather than silently producing a formatted result.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste the YAML source.
  2. Select Beautify YAML; parsing errors appear if the document cannot be formatted.
  3. Review the output, especially quoted values and indentation, before copying it.

How to interpret the result

Parsing and serializing can change comments, quoting, whitespace and scalar representation. Successful parsing does not validate an application-specific schema such as a deployment configuration. Keep a backup and check the destination application rules.

Frequently asked questions

Will comments and formatting be preserved?

Do not rely on it. This tool reconstructs YAML from parsed data, so it is not a round-trip editor for preserving every source detail.
