Sort Text

The interactive tool loads here. JavaScript is required to use its controls; the instructions below are available without it.

Reorder a plain-text list alphabetically or by line length. The original and sorted output remain separate so you can compare them before copying the result.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste one entry per line.
  2. Select A to Z, Z to A, short first or long first, and choose whether to ignore case.
  3. Review and copy the output.

How to interpret the result

Alphabetical ordering uses the browser locale comparison rules. Length ordering counts JavaScript string units, not the visual width of a line. This is not a numeric sort or a CSV table sorter; it does not keep multi-line records together.

Frequently asked questions

Will duplicate lines be removed?

No. Sorting preserves entries. Run Remove Duplicate Lines first if you need a unique list.
